The Great Temple (the funerary complex of Ramses II), Abu Simbel, Nubian desert, Southern Egypt, 1250's B.C.
Twice a year, in late March and September (the vernal and autumnal equinoxes resp.), a ray of sunlight penetrates
the 65 metres between the entrance and the shrines and bathes Amon-Ra and Ramses II in light.
 The Great Temple, a close-up.
